The Orange County Register reports that 61-year-old Dennis Zafran died at the UCI Medical Center in Orange, California, on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. The man, a resident of Anaheim, was severely injured in a motorcycle accident earlier in the week and succumbed to complications after undergoing surgery.
The California motorcycle accident occurred on Monday, October 22, just before 1:30pm. Zafran was riding his motorcycle on MacArthur Boulevard in Santa Ana near the Harbor Boulevard intersection when traffic suddenly stopped ahead of him.
Zafran, who authorities say was traveling at approximately 30 miles-per-hour, could not stop in time to avoid a collision. However, he did avoid a collision by slamming on his brakes and sliding his bike in order to avoid the vehicle in front of him. In doing so, he was thrown from his motorcycle.
Santa Ana Police reported that Zafran was lying motionless in the road when they rushed to the scene. He was transported to a local hospital, where he had surgery for multiple internal injuries. Although he stabilized following surgery, he later took a turn for the worse and died of his injuries three days after the motorcycle wreck.
A large number of motorcycle accidents and injuries occur due to sudden stops, tailgating, and rear-end collisions. These crashes can be prevented by the increased vigilance of both bikers and all other vehicles on the road.
The Orange County motorcycle accident attorneys at Russell & Lazarus send their condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Dennis Zafran.
