Fullerton Traffic Accident at Intersection Involves Ambulance

Four people were transported to local hospitals after two separate vehicle accidents occurred at an intersection in Fullerton, California on Friday, November 30. One of the California motor vehicle accidents involved an ambulance transporting a patient.

According to the Fullerton Police Department, the ambulance and car collision occurred around noon on November 30 at the intersection of Brea Boulevard and Bastanchury Road. The ambulance, which carried a driver, patient, and medical attendant, was traveling west on Bastanchury Road to St. Jude Medical Center without the use of its lights or siren at the time of the crash. It is unclear whether the ambulance was speeding to get to its destination or whether it was obeying traffic signals.

In that accident, four people were transported to the hospital: all three occupants in the ambulance, as well as the driver of the passenger car which collided with the ambulance.

Minutes after the crash, another traffic accident occurred at the same intersection, this time involving two passenger cars. In that collision, no one required medical attention. It is not clear whether this second crash was related to the crash involving the ambulance.

Unfortunately, accidents involving emergency vehicles are quite common in California and across the country. Just as with other motor vehicle accidents, they often involve high speeds, reckless driving, and distracted driving. A crash involving an emergency vehicle—such as an ambulance, fire truck, or police cruiser—could be the fault of the emergency responder or the fault of another vehicle’s driver.
