Hundreds of fans are mourning after local media sources reported that heavy metal rocker Mitch Lucker was killed in a motorcycle accident in Huntington Beach, California, in the early hours of November 1, 2012. Just hours before the fatal crash, the lead singer of Riverside band Suicide Silence tweeted a picture of himself dress as a skeleton for Halloween.
The 28-year-old rocker was riding his Harley-Davidson on Main Street in Huntington Beach on the night of Halloween when he lost control of his bike. Authorities say he swerved and struck a light pole, while his motorcycle continued down the road and hit an oncoming pickup truck. He was rushed to the University of California Irvine Medical Center after being treated on the scene by Huntington Beach Fire Department paramedics. He died of his injuries several hours later. The accident occurred around 9:00 pm on October 31.
Hundreds of fans gathered at the site of the fatal crash on Thursday night with candles. His fellow band members also attended the vigil, while the band’s record label released a statement that a talented musician had been lost. His wife, Jolie Carmadella, told those at his vigil that Lucker was an alcoholic who had been drinking on the night of the crash. He left behind a five-year-old daughter, Kenadee.
The group formed in 2002 and released three studio albums, including The Cleansing, No Time to Bleed, and The Black Crown. They have toured with bands including Slipknot and Disturbed, and performed at the Mayhem Festival.
