Fatal Orange County Motorcycle Accident on I-405
A fatal Orange County motorcycle accident was responsible for closing several lanes of traffic on I-405 on Wednesday, March 6. The man who was killed in the accident has been identified as 68-year-old Larry Angelo, of Fontana. An officer with the California Highway Patrol said that Angelo was declared dead at the scene of the accident, and the lanes were closed for about two hours as the accident was investigated and cleared.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Angelo was traveling north on I-405 when he lost control of his 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle. Angelo was thrown from the bike in the accident and landed on the road two lanes away. Tragically, after landing in the roadway, Angelo was hit by a trailer attached to a 2001 Ford F-150 traveling in the lane. The attached trailer was loaded with landscaping equipment.
The accident happened at about 7:48 a.m., and the freeway lanes were reopened around 10:00 a.m. It is not currently known what caused Angelo to lose control of his bike, and officials continue to investigate. The driver of the truck was not cited in the accident.
Unfortunately, accidents are not uncommon on the busy I-405 freeway. For safety’s sake, we encourage all drivers to be aware behind the wheel, allow plenty of room for motorcyclists on the road, and to be ready to react to the unexpected.
