A motorcycle accident that occurred on August 4, 2013, took the life of a Huntington Beach man.
The accident took place at approximately 3:43 p.m. The accident happened near the Mesa Verde Shopping Center, according to authorities.
The motorcyclist that was killed in the accident was identified as Chad deLorm, 40 years old, from Huntington Beach.
According to Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott, as deLorm was heading east on Adams Avenue, just past Royal Drive, a woman collided with him as she attempted to make a left turn in front of him. She was driving a 2005 Honda Civic.
The motorcycle collided with the Honda on the passenger side. Chad deLorm was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the Honda was a 62-year-old woman from Costa Mesa. According to authorities, she did not appear to be intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol. She was questioned by authorities and released shortly after.
This accident is the second fatal motorcycle accident in Costa Mesa in a two-week span.
Friends and family of the motorcyclist gathered as they remembered him. They described him as fun, generous, and passionate about riding.
“What can you do?” deLorm’s mother, Catherine Zilliox, said Monday night. “He’s been riding for a long time. People in cars don’t look for motorcycles — that’s what I worried about.”
Those who were there to mourn his loss were numbered at about 50 people. They were a diverse crowd and many most had flowers and candles.
Other motorcycle riders that knew him described him as being a conservative biker. He actually taught motorcycle safety courses.
The law team at Russell & Lazarus sends its condolences to the family and friends of deLorm during this time of grief.
