Cyclist Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Garden Grove Accident

A Laguna Hills man was killed while cycling on Euclid Street in Garden Grove on a Monday evening, November 26, 2012. The driver who struck the bicycle rider stopped at the scene to administer aid, call for help, and speak with authorities. The Orange County traffic accident is currently under investigation by police.

According to local news sources and Garden Grove police, the deadly bike accident occurred just before 7:00 p.m. near the intersection of Wakefield Avenue. Forty-seven-year-old cyclist Brian Winfrey was biking south on the right shoulder of Euclid Avenue and was wearing a reflective yellow vest. He was struck by a Honda SUV also traveling south on the road, driven by a 48-year-old woman, Bach Troung of Huntington Beach.

Winfrey was rushed to UCI Medical Center in Orange by ambulance, but was soon pronounced dead by the Orange County Coroner’s Office. Troung remained at the scene of the fatal cyclist accident and cooperated with police. She was not cited or charged in relation to the traffic accident and police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Orange County authorities closed Euclid Avenue from Orangewood Avenue to Katella Avenue to collect evidence at the scene of the collision. Police are still investigating the crash and ask that any witnesses or anyone with information call the department immediately.
