According to a recent article in the Orange County Register, a suspected drunk driving accident in Fullerton left one person injured. The accident occurred at the intersection of West Bastanchury Road and Harbor Boulevard around 5:10 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013. After the accident, the intersection was closed to traffic for approximately two hours and a SigAlert was issued by the California Highway Patrol.
Police suspect that 24-year-old Tracy Howell, of Hawthorne, was driving under the influence when he ran the red light at the intersection while traveling southbound on Harbor Boulevard. Howell’s Nissan Altima collided with a Honda Civic that was turning left from West Bastanchury Road onto northbound Harbor Boulevard. The unidentified female driver of the Honda Civic was transferred to St. Jude Medical Center, which is located on the corner of the intersection where the accident occurred. She was reportedly treated for the minor injuries she sustained in the accident. Police say that Howell has been arrested for suspected DUI related to the accident.
Because the Nissan Altima came to a rest near the 76 gas station on West Bastanchury Road, officials at the scene worried that the nearby gasoline might pose a danger. The Fullerton Fire Department assisted in the post-accident clean up, and the SigAlert ended at about 7:00 a.m. on Sunday.
The Orange County accident attorneys with Russell & Lazarus hope that the driver of the Honda Civic experiences a fast and full recovery, and we remind drivers to think twice about the consequences before driving drunk.
