More Than 500 Distracted Driving Tickets Issued in Newport Beach

The month of April is “Distracted Driving Awareness Month,” and police in Newport Beach launched a month-long campaign to educate the public on safe driving practices and ticket drivers who are distracted behind the wheel. All in all, 510 citations were issued to distracted drivers during the month of April, and the Newport Police Department says it will continue to cite offenders and educate drivers in the future. The Newport Beach Police Department took educational and enforcement actions for Distracted Driving Awareness Month along with 225 other departments and agencies in other areas.

According to figures quoted by the Newport Beach Police Department, nine people die and 1,060 people are injured every day in distracted driving accidents. These high numbers are a motivating factor for police, and they say they will continue to enforce distracted driving laws even though April is over.
