On Sunday, May 12, 2013, a suspected drunk driver was involved in an Anaheim multi-car wreck that sent so many people to the hospital that paramedics declared it a “mass casualty incident.” The accident took place at the intersection of Gilbert Street and La Palma Avenue in Anaheim.
Police say two cars were stopped at a red light at the intersection just before the accident occurred. A third car, whose driver was suspected to be under the influence at the time, reportedly collided with the two cars at the stop light. Although it was unclear if the suspected DUI driver had passengers in the car, both cars that were hit had passengers. In all, a total of eight people were transported to a local hospital from the scene of the accident for their injuries. At the time of this report, the injured victims’ names had not been released, and there is not yet an update on their conditions.
According to police, the suspected drunk driver who hit the two stopped vehicles was arrested at the scene for felony drunk driving.
